About CMS

All members of Carlinville Middle School are proud of our school.  Our administration, faculty, staff and students are dedicated to meeting high standards of academic and social development.  Carlinville Middle School supports and builds upon the strong academic foundation developed at the Primary and Intermediate levels.  Carlinville Middle School promotes the academic development of our students in their transition from the elementary grades into independent learners prepared for the academic rigors of high school and beyond.  Carlinville Middle School has crafted an academic program designed to meet our students needs through challenging and focused curriculum offerings, a flexible schedule designed to meet the needs of all students, and a professional and student focused faculty and staff.  CMS is participating in transitioning to a 1:1 school through the adoption of Chromebooks in the classroom.

CMS has designed a schedule to meet the academic needs of all students.  At the 7th and 8th grade levels, courses have been re-designed to focus on the development and nurturing of skills vital to life-long learners.  Course selections have been established to insure students with under-developed or emerging skills receive the instruction and attention they need.  Students who have demonstrated a solid foundation of academic skills have enrichment courses designed to engage and further develop these skills.  Our core curriculum and Flex courses have been created with the intent of providing our students with additional academic content to better prepare them for the academic rigors they will encounter in high school.  Our 7th/8th schedule is based upon a “Flexible” block format.  Our core academic offerings are developed in a “Block Format” with two 90 minute courses each morning.  Flex courses are provided throughout the day in four 45-minute courses.  Currently at the 7th and 8th grade levels, all students participate in the core academic classes.  During the Flex times, students are directed to those courses that will best meet their academic needs.  6th grade currently follows the traditional 45-minute class period schedule.  The 6th grade schedule is an important piece in the academic development of our students as they transition from dependent to independent learners.

CMS also offers a variety of events and activities to engage our students in positive and team building opportunities that build school spirit.  Athletic activities, such as Cross-Country, Basketball, Volleyball, and Track and Field provide opportunities for our students to participate in school-sponsored team sports.  Our students also compete in other programs.  Our Scholastic Bowl team participated in the 2016 IESA State Tournament.  Our Band and Choir students are active in contests and concerts throughout the year.  Our Student Council is very active in promoting school spirit by organizing activities that engage all students.  Our Youth Power and PTO sponsors numerous school dances and fun nights during the year.
