Summer is on its way and the days will be getting hotter (HOPEFULLY). It is important to look after your skin during this time of year. Follow these simple tips to ensure you are safe in the sun and avoid the risk of sunburn and heat stroke. Use minimum factor 30+ sunscreen. Sunscreen should protect against UVA and UVB rays. Sunscreen needs to be applied 30 minutes before going out in the sun. This should be applied to all exposed parts of the body. Sunscreen should generally be re-applied at least every 2 hours. Try to stay in the shade between 11am and 3pm - this is the hottest part of the day. If you are out in the sun, you should wear a hat and sunglasses. Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day to keep hydrated. Wear lightweight clothing. Avoid long sleeves and dark clothing. These simple tips should be followed at all times, even on cloudy days. |
Let's Talk Water! Why is Water Important? β Water is the foundation of virtually every process in your body. That means that if you arenβt hydrated, every other healthful activity you are doing wonβt be as effective. Signs of Dehydration β Even mild dehydration can impact your mood, energy and ability to think clearly. In fact, the first sign of dehydration isnβt thirst so oftentimes we can ignore these signals. These signals include: β Trouble concentrating β Fatigue β Weight gain/bloat β Hunger β Drop in mood β Dry skin and brittle nails How Much Water Should You be Drinking? β Although everyone is different, the rule of thumb is half of your weight in ounces per day. β Here is how you would calculate that if you were 160 lbs.: 160 lbs 2 = 80 80 8 ounces in a glass = 10 glasses per day |
